Shafeeq Mahomed’s Journey from Mauritius to India for Direct Superior Approach Hip Replacement

For Shafeeq Mahomed from Mauritius, discomfort in his hip had gradually begun affecting the way he moved through his day. Walking longer distances was becoming less comfortable, and activities that once felt automatic required more thought. Over time, he realised that constantly adapting around the problem was not a solution he wanted to continue with.

For Shafeeq, the journey from Mauritius to India was ultimately about addressing a problem that had begun limiting his mobility. The surgery was an important part of that process, but so were preparation, rehabilitation, and patience.

Looking back on his experience, Shafeeq said:

“I had become very careful about the way I walked and moved because I did not want to aggravate my hip. That slowly started affecting the things I enjoyed doing. Before agreeing to surgery, I wanted to understand exactly what approach would be used and what the recovery would ask of me. Travelling from Mauritius to India was a big decision, but I felt more comfortable once everything had been explained. The first part of recovery required patience, and I learned to value every small improvement rather than expecting a quick change.”
