Tawhidul Bari’s Journey from Bangladesh to India for Hip Resurfacing Surgery

For Tawhidul Bari from Bangladesh, persistent hip discomfort had slowly started affecting the way he moved through everyday life. Walking for extended periods was becoming harder, and ordinary activities that once required little thought began to feel like things he needed to plan around. He eventually reached a point where simply managing the discomfort was no longer enough.

After discussing his situation with his family, Tawhidul began exploring treatment options outside Bangladesh. India became an important destination in that search as he looked for experienced orthopaedic care and a suitable surgical option for his hip. The idea of hip resurfacing surgery interested Tawhidul because he wanted to understand how it differed from a conventional hip replacement. Travelling from Bangladesh to India was still a major step. He was leaving home while preparing for an operation, and naturally there were concerns about how everything would work in an unfamiliar setting. Once he arrived at the hospital, the consultations and pre-operative assessments gave him time to settle in and prepare.

By the time surgery approached, Tawhidul had already spent considerable time discussing the procedure. That did not remove all nervousness, but it gave him a clearer sense of what was happening. His family remained an important source of support as he prepared for the operation.

The days following surgery required patience. Tawhidul had to gradually become comfortable with movement again and follow the rehabilitation guidance provided by the medical team. The early stage was less about doing everything immediately and more about taking sensible steps forward.

What encouraged him most were the small changes. Standing more comfortably, walking with greater confidence, and becoming less dependent on assistance made the recovery feel tangible.

For Tawhidul, the journey from Bangladesh to India was ultimately about finding a way to address a hip problem that had begun restricting his routine. The decision involved careful thought, international travel, surgery, and rehabilitation, with his family beside him throughout the experience.

Looking back on his experience, Tawhidul said:

“My hip had started influencing my decisions in ways I did not like. I would think twice before taking a long walk or doing something that required too much movement. Before travelling, I wanted to understand whether resurfacing was appropriate for me and what the recovery would really involve. Once I had those discussions, I felt more comfortable moving ahead. The first part after surgery required patience, but I enjoyed seeing small improvements rather than expecting everything to happen at once. That made the recovery feel much more manageable.”
