Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery Is Gaining The Popularity

By | January 7, 2020

Robots and artificial intelligence together are helping people to do their jobs better. Robotics doesn’t completely replace the need for traditional surgeries and robots are now making the way onto the operating room. They are indeed helping surgeons improve precision and accuracy during knee replacement surgery. Robotics in this new era is becoming a new tool in hospitals for the treatment of complicated surgeries.

Robotics in knee surgery has gained popularity among surgeons in the last three years, as robotics surgery has significant benefits that are provided over the traditional knee replacement surgery. The time robotic has launched and till now 2,000 patients have experienced the benefits from the robotics knee surgery across India.  While this technology in the US existed nearly five years and in India, it came in the last three year.

Asian joint Reconstruction Institute (AJRI) at SIMS, Chennai has four the most dedicated surgeons that perform Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery. They just recently launched the 4th generation robotic knee replacement technology, which is said to improve the future of surgeries with better outcomes provided to patients.

Dr Vijay C Bose is a Joint Director and Consultant Joint reconstruction surgeon in Chennai. Dr Bose provides consult for complex hip, knee and shoulder problems, and he uses NAVIO Robotic surgical system for better accuracy. This newer system is believed to help the precise image of the knee with the help of advanced computer program. The process created a3-D model of the joint’s affected part, that helps to eliminate the need for the CT scan and MRI before the operation. It makes the surgery customized for each patient.

Dr. Vijay C Bose says, “the robotic surgeries had made the treatment easier, this latest advancement of robotics improves efficiency at the time of treatment and reduces the chances of any error. It helps to perform Robotic knee replacement surgery in less time than the traditional once.”

The robotic arm helps to perform the different joint surgeries, by using the CT scan information, a 3-D image of the joint that helps the doctor to plan the surgery. During the surgery process, doctors use the robotic surgical arm to create the bone, by introducing the implant and ensuring that the bone is balanced and fits well.

The Robotic Knee Replacement Surgeries are extremely precise, allowing the surgeon to do partial knee replacement two to three times more accurately than the conventional knee replacement surgery. When compared to traditional or conventional surgery, robotic surgeries are four times more accurate and reproducible. This accuracy helps to spare healthy bones and tissues while getting rid of diseased bones and tissues.

When performing knee replacement surgery , specialist trust that it upgrades exactness, adaptability and controls the activity that enables quicker recovery, less pain, less blood loss, fewer complications and less noticeable scars. It serves as insignificantly intrusion medical procedure.

Dr. Vijay C Bose along with Dr. P. Suryanarayan are the early adopter of robotics in India. They are well known for the performance and latest improvements and they believe that this technology will make the surgeries more precise. Patients are benefiting with the knee problems that sometimes were untreated by the traditional surgery. The accuracy that robotic surgery is providing has changed the view of many surgeons for new technology.

It is believed that there are many more advanced technologies are on their way, that would benefit patients in future as it is benefiting now. This newer advancement in science will keep benefiting people with knee problems, and robots have the potential to change the world. India is developing in newer technologies and is further believed to take this advancement to a better level.
